/ Self Supported Human Powered Winter Ultra / – Definition:
• A mulit-day endurance race taking place in cold climates during the Winter months where participants cover vast snow covered overland distances on foot, bike or skis under their own power carrying all that they need to sustain themselves and survive including food, water and survival gear. The “human powered” designation is used to differentiate from other Winter ultra distance events including long distance snowmobile and dog sled races. Most of these races take place above the 48th parallell in the Boreal Forest Biome and traverse frozen lake and wetland areas that are all but impassable during non-Winter months.
Over time I will add short essays, thoughts, musings, experiences and tips related to Winter ultra racing on this page… stay tuned.
